Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair: Review

Few products have captured my heart (or my skin) so completely like the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum. It has all the ingredients that my skin loves and it is hydration in a bottle.

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum was first released in 1982. It retails at over $70 dollars for a 30ml bottle and well over $150 for a 75ml. So why does the serum have a cult following? Several bottles of this serum are sold every minute and beauty editors and skincare enthusiasts all around the world swear by it. To some, it is just another over priced skin care splurge but to others, it is a serum they cannot afford to be without.

SKIN STORY

A brief background of my skin: My skin’s oily and is generally not temperamental except for the odd incident like this severe acne breakout. Oily as it is, it responds amazingly to hydration and loves a good moisturizer. My skin is the posterchild for “oily skin requires hydration too”.

I also struggle with hyperpigmentation.

MAIN INGREDIENTS

The serum contains “Tripeptide-32”  a peptide exclusive to the Estee Lauder brand (it’s been patented). Tripeptide-32 is said to promote the “natural synchronization of skin’s natural day/night (circadian) rhythm”.  It also contains sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), “a powerful moisture magnet”.

Recently, the formula was modified to include the Chronolux Power Signal technology, which aids the skin in its natural renewal process.

WHAT DOES THE SERUM DO?

With several skin loving ingredients, the Advanced Night Repair Serum targets dryness, dullness, uneven skin tone, loss of firmness etc.

HOW I USE IT

The Estee Lauder website says to use this serum after your cleanser and treatment lotion. I use this after cleansing my face, toning and using my essence.  I put some drops of the serum on my palms and massage it into my skin. I usually wait a few seconds before following up with a moisturiser.

Although it’s called a Night Repair serum, I also use this sometimes in my morning routine. It just depends on the state of my skin and what I feel it needs. I have discovered from experience that the best skincare is usually a bit flexible; it leaves some room for some tweaks and is adapted to suit the current needs of your skin.

THE VERDICT

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum is one of my favourites. It’s been a staple in my skincare routine for a couple of years now and will likely be in it for more years. My skin literally feels so plump the morning after I use it, like freshly whipped avocado. I try not to run out of it and each time I’m unfortunate enough to be without it, my skin notices.

I like that it does what it says and it is not fussy. It does not have any harsh acids in it which is a breath of fresh air for skin. It is soothing, goes on easily, absorbs very fast. It also makes my make-up look flawless when I use it as a primer.

I must emphasize though that the benefits of this serum are best reaped when I follow up with a moisturizing cream or serum. I made the mistake of stopping with this serum a couple of times when I first started using it and I was left extremely disappointed- not because the serum was not amazing but because I had no idea how hyaluronic acid worked.

It is an expensive serum but a worthy investment all the same. No wonder it has a cult following. It is a bestseller and so many women and men around the world swear by it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone dealing with dull, dehydrated skin or just anyone looking for another serum to add to their skincare.
