Product Review: Barbara Sturm Darker Skin Tones Enzyme Cleanser
If you are a skincare enthusiast, you may have heard of Dr. Barbara Sturm. The orthopedic surgeon turned in-demand skin therapist launched her eponymous line in 2003 and has amassed a cult following since then. I’d had my eyes on her products for a while and decided to give this Enzyme Cleanser made specifically for “melanin-rich skin” like mine a go.
I am glad I did and the reasons why are simple: it has a very clean smell, gently exfoliates my skin without drying it out, it gives my skin that glow that I love and there’s so much product in a bottle that it lasts forever.
The Promise
The cleanser comes as a fine-grained powder and transforms into a soft foam once water is added. It promises to “removes dry or rough skin, environmental impurities and cosmetics, and excess oil on the skin’s surface”, revitalize skin and provide skin with greater ability to absorb active ingredients applied to the skin after cleansing. The active ingredients are vitamin c, subtilisin, lipase, cellulose peeling particles.
Vitamin C, an anti-oxidant and a regular feature in skincare products, hydrates and refreshes the skin and keeps it firm. Subtilisin has a keratolytic effect, meaning it dissolves the keratin layer of the skin, releasing dead skin cells and stimulating turnover of . Lipase frees the skin from excess oil and cellulose removes dead skin cells.
Although it is targeted at darker skin tones, this cleanser can be used by all skin tones.
This cleanser is formulated with a concentrated blend of ingredients that work to help you keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful without the use of harsh chemicals. The result? A gentle yet effective cleanser that is safe for your skin types.
The Verdict
I found this cleanser to be gentle yet effective. It exfoliated my skin without irritating it and it removed even the most stubborn makeup without leaving any residue behind. This product does not cause me any redness or breakouts. How often should I use this? According to Dr. Barbara Sturm, this cleanser can be used everyday for oily skin and two to three times a week for more sensitive skin types.
The price point is high, but it is a luxury product, so you’re paying for quality. It’s worth it if you can afford it and want to get the most out of your skin care regimen. A little goes a long way and a bottle will last ages. If you can afford it, this cleanser is your new go-to for your darker skin tone. .
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a gentle, effective cleanser to deeply cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture, I highly recommend this product. It’s made specifically for darker skin tones and contains ingredients that gently exfoliate without harsh abrasives or irritation.
